edInfo.tv is a portal of learning and instructional technology content, paired with KickApps to provide a social networking aspect. There are two main types of content that can be distributed via this portal: directly user-generated content, and suggested content.
User-Generated Content
User-generated content is mostly correspondent with the KickApps social networking aspect of edInfo. Users may sign up for an account and post blogs, photos, videos, and contribute to discussion boards.
Photos and Videos
A user who has created a KickApps account can easily upload videos or photos simply by clicking on the photos or videos tab and following the steps to upload one (videos have a maximum size of 100 megabytes). Photos and videos should be relevant to some sort of eLearning or instructional point, but may also be personal videos to simply share. Photos and videos have the content itself, a title, and an optional description.
Blogs and Discussion Boards
A user who has created a KickApps account can easily post a blog or contribute to a discussion board. Clicking on the blog tab will allow a user to add a blog by simply writing one with a title and body. Discussion boards can be filled out in a similar manner, but posts should stay within the threads of relevance, or have started a new thread.
Contributing Content
Any user may sign up for an account by going to www.edinfo.tv and visiting any of the KickApps pages (namely the multimedia and community pages). Once registered, a user can follow the steps outlined above or by simply navigating the site to upload content.
Suggested Content
The other main source of content for edInfo is suggested content, which is usually provided by in the form of RSS feeds. These can be seen throughout the site in various places and include jobs, hot news items, calendar events, tips & tools, and resources. These items can be submitted via e-mail to be added manually by an administrator of edInfo.
Hot News Items, Tips & Tools, and Resources
These content types are mainly described by a title and a description or external link. If an external link is prepared, there does not need to be a description. If there is no link, a description will be shown when clicking on the item that should be fairly descriptive about what the item is about. For instance, a link to an article can be placed here, or the actual article content could be placed in the description if the article were not available online or written specifically for edInfo. These can also be categorized as belonging to eLearning, HPI, Instructional Technology, Instructional Design, or career related (or general if not specific to any of these). Descriptions are not necessarily limited by any amount of characters.
Calendar Events and Professional Organizations
Interesting and upcoming events are catalogued for professional associations. Titles, start times, end times, locations, and descriptions are required for any event (times can simply be the day the event is held on). Professional organizations may also be suggested in the form of the name of the association or organization and a description. Descriptions are not necessarily limited by any amount of characters.
